Bedtime Stories for Children:

My wife and I read to our son, Brennan, before he goes to bed.

This is a great time for Brennan to wind down from the business of his day. It’s an ideal opportunity to schedule reading time. The activity does have its problems though. One of the challenges my wife and I face is running out of stories. Though we have scads of books in our home, my wife and I still have nights when we are scrambling to find something to read.

To remedy this situation, I have discovered storybooks that contain dozens of short stories perfect for bedtime. Every night, I am able to read a different story to my son and sometimes I read the same story several nights in a row. If he does become bored with a story, I have a number of others from which to choose.

I am very proud to say that the Columbus Public Library has a number of great storybooks. These wonderful parental resources are found primarily in the J 398’s and J 811’s and are geared for children all ages and comprehension levels. We have stories for just boys or just girls and books that are ideal for both.

To help you get started, I have chosen four of the most popular storybooks that I have seen floating in and out of the Children’s room. The first is entitled “Disney’s Americana Storybook Collection.” This wonderful book contains a number of tales from the children’s literature canon---sagas like “Old Yeller,” “Dumbo,” Pecos Bill,” “Pollyanna,” and “Paul Bunyan.” This book is ideal for bedtime because the stories are short and easy for young listeners to follow.

The popular two-volume set “Once Upon A Princess” is great for girls because it contains stories about Disney princesses like Cinderella, Pocahontas, the Little Mermaid, and Belle from “The Beauty and The Beast.” Little ones will enjoy falling asleep to the idea of “happily every after.”

The final book that parents find perfect for bedtime fun is entitled “Disney 365 Bedtime Stories.” This collection is great because it gives children a different bedtime story for every night of the year! The modern Disney characters like Nemo from “Finding Nemo,” Simba from “The Lion King,” Mike from “Monster’s Inc.,” and Lilo from “Lilo and Stitch” are featured in the book.

So, when it comes to bedtime fun, don’t forget to check out what the Columbus Public Library has to offer because, I am sure we have a bedtime story that is guaranteed to give your child sweet dreams.
