"Library Has Kids In Mind"
As a parent, have you ever asked yourself what activities are
available for my child that are both fun and educational? Well, as
an expectant father, I have started asking myself that very same
question and was happy to find the answer right under my nose. The
Columbus Public Library offers a wonderful selection of programs and
activities that are both fun and educational for young people.
Every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and Thursday at 10:30 a.m., the
Columbus Public Library offers a Story Time. Each week, the Story
Time has a specific theme that is discussed. After story time,
children and parents are given the opportunity to work with learning
activities that focus on a number of topics like colors, shapes, and
patterns. The children are also offered the chance to work on the
computer using software that helps establish and fine tune computer
skills. The software is also instrumental in improving your child’s
hand-eye coordination.
A number of parents, children, and daycare providers participate in
Story Hour. What an excellent opportunity for children to interact
with each other in an enjoyable environment. Story Time is geared
for children ages three and up. However, if parents feel their child
is ready for such an experience and they are able to stay and
interact with their child, any child is welcome.
The Columbus Public Library also has a wide array of kits called
Stories and Stuff. These packets are ideal for educators and daycare
providers. The kits contain books, puppets, crafts, song tapes, and
videos that focus on a specific theme. We’ve had a number of
teachers and daycare providers incorporate these themes into their
lesson plans and have given them rave reviews. So, the next time
you’re working on a unit, stop by the library and see what we have
to offer. You won’t be disappointed.
Students: don’t forget your public library also has a number of
Accelerated Reader books (AR). These books are available for you to
check out any time. We also have a number of AR Tests available for
you to take with your teacher’s approval. All you have to do is come
in, check to see if we have the test you need, and set up a time to
take the test. After you’ve finished testing, we’ll print the
results for you to give to your teacher.
These suggestions I’ve provided are just some of the many
opportunities for parents and their children. So, the next time
you’re looking for a fun and educational opportunity for your child,
look no further than Columbus Public Library. If you have any
