“Librarian’s Shelf” by Sally Hansen

INSPIRATIONAL AUDIOBOOKS

Our selection of Audiobooks is second to none! Honestly, patrons are able to find the authors they enjoy, the genre they’re most comfortable reading, and, like I said, no other Library that is our size, can compete with our collection.

My emphasis this time will focus on the inspirational genre. It truly is taking the nation by storm. If you’re not familiar with “Christian” fiction, let me explain the phenomenal success it’s been experiencing the last five or so years.

Have you ever tried to find that perfect audio for Great Aunt Martha or your teenage niece? Well, believe it or not, YOU CAN, if you just take a moment to browse through our inspirational recorded books. You can count on the fact that there will be nothing untowardly or even the slightest inference of impropriety contained in these recordings. In this day and age, we all yearn for the simple and sincere story. That’s exactly what inspirational fiction can provide. The whole family can listen without the worry there will be something inappropriate spoken.
I’ve selected just a few examples of the genre, even though there are so many more to choose from in the cassette and CD area at Columbus Public Library.

From the award-winning Richard Paul Evans, author of the #1 New York Times best-seller “The Christmas Box” comes a touching story of picking up the pieces of a broken life and learning to start over.

Just one week before her wedding, Christine Hollister is dumped by her fiancé. Hoping to get her mind off the heartache, she joins her best friend Jessica on a humanitarian mission to Peru. The women volunteer at an orphanage called The Sunflower. There, Christine meets Paul Cook, once a successful ER doctor whose career was shattered one tragic night. Both Christine and Paul have been devastated before, but they must learn to trust their hearts---and one another---if they want to forge a new beginning together.

Publishers Weekly calls “The Sunflower” “entertaining” and Kirkus Reviews praises the “wholesome story” and “amazing setting.” Listeners will cherish every moment of this compelling, heartwarming tale.
Columbus Public Library has the complete and unabridged version of “The Sunflower” on CD (compact disc), (in fact there are 6 CD’s and it lasts approximately 6.5 hours.)

“The Coming Storm” is Book Two in the Heirs of Montana Series by Tracie Peterson. The best-selling author of over 60 books, Tracie Peterson pens soaring works of faith and simple virtue. An addition to her popular Heirs of Montana series, “The Coming Storm” takes place in the year 1870.

From a favorite hilltop, Dianne Chadwick surveys the wide open spaces of the Diamond V ranch. There----against a glorious backdrop of icy, rugged mountains---her sense of purpose is rekindled, and she finds the peace that her soul craves. Still, uncertainty troubles her thoughts. A year ago, her beloved fiancé, Cole, traveled east to help his parents establish a farm and has yet to return. When Cole sends word that he will be further delayed, another man steps in and professes his love for Dianne. Feeling adrift in a sea of confusion, she must rely on her faith and the steadfast support of her family and friends to anchor her.

This inspiring novel shows that sometimes even storm clouds have silver linings. “The Coming Storm” features a spirited reading from Ruth Ann Phimister, who is a versatile, seasoned performer and a critically acclaimed narrator. She received her master’s degree in theatre and taught acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She has appeared Off-Broadway and in numerous regional productions, including “Life with Father” with Robert Reed. She has also worked in television, film, and commercial voiceover.
This book by Tracie Peterson is on 12 compact discs (CD’s) and lasts 14.25 hours.

“The Rapture: In the Twinkling of an Eye” by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins and is performed by Richard Ferrone. (8 CD’s and lasts 8.75 hours)

The twelve riveting novels of the original “Left Behind” series and the first two prequels, “The Rising” and “The Regime”, have all conquered the New York Times best-seller list. Authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins are now among the greatest successes in the history of publishing. They continue their captivating story with this third prequel, which leads directly to the events of “Left Behind”, the novel that started the phenomenon.
Narrator Richard Ferrone left a successful law career to become a professional actor. The Dallas Morning News proclaims, “Richard Ferrone is one of the all-time great mystery readers. His gravelly, no-nonsense delivery is voice noir.”

Please don’t hesitate ---come in and try the wonderful and successful category---Christian (Inspirational) Fiction ---on recorded books. I love their marketing technique for audio books: “Have you HEARD a good book lately?”
