Volunteering isn't necessary to be a Friend, but it is certainly appreciated! You may choose your time commitment. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the Friends for more information about the following ways to support the Friends and the library.

  • Book Sale Worker -
    Work with library staff to sort and price donated books, prepare the sales room, and clerk at the annual book sale.
  • Children's Programs -
    During the Summer Reading Program, help with the supervision of activities, distribute prizes in the evenings and/or weekends, or be a guest reader during Story Time. Would work with the Children's Librarian to locate reading materials. During the school year, substitute for the Children's Librarian during Story Time.
  • Adult Program Host -
    Provide coffee and refreshments at programs sponsored by the Library. These programs could range from Humanities Council sponsored to film festival-type events.
  • Bookmobile Host -
    Work with the bookmobile librarian at a county stop by shelving books and helping patrons locate reading materials.
  • Guest Writer for "Librarian's Shelf" -
    Volunteer to write three to four "Librarian's Shelf" articles for the local paper per year. Articles could be on a single book title, a group of titles and could be either on adult or children's books.
  • Read to Seniors -
    Volunteer on a regular, scheduled basis to read short stories and excerpts from books to the elderly at the various retirement communities and nursing homes in the community. Library staff can assist with reading selections.
  • Adopt a Dewey Section -
    Adopt an area of shelving in the library to "shelf read," a library term for reading the spine labels to make certain books are shelved in the correct order.
  • Hosting Program Speakers -
    Provide room and food for a night for a Humanities Council-sponsored or library-recruited speaker.
  • Scrapbooker -
    Volunteer pastes library related newspaper clippings that have already been collected into a scrapbook. This could be done at the library or at home. This is not fancy scrapbooking, but for archival purposes.
