Minutes of the Special Meeting
Of the
Columbus Public Library Board

September 17, 2008

The special meeting of the Columbus Public Library Board was called to order at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 by acting President, Carol Keller. She read aloud and signed the “Certification of Compliance,” regarding the “Open Meeting” law.

Other Library Board members present included Joie Taylor, Craig Neid, and Sharon Raimondo. Jim Schaefer was excused. Jill Owens, Library Director, was also present.

Notice of this meeting was given in advance with a copy of the agenda posted at City Hall, the Courthouse, and in the Public Library. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the public.

There was only one item of business for this meeting: To review the Library’s Mission Statement.

Joie Taylor led the group through the discussion, the brainstorming, and the refining process to come up with a proposed new Mission Statement.

The Mission Statement to be voted on at the next Library Board meeting is:

“The mission of the Columbus Public Library is to serve our diverse communities as a vital resource center for information, culture, and entertainment."

There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Craig Neid and seconded by everyone. The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
Jill Owens
Library Director
