Minutes of the Meeting
of the Columbus Public Library Board
February 24, 2010

The special meeting of the Columbus Public Library Board was called to order at 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 24, 2010 by Library Board President Carol Keller. She read aloud and signed the “Certification of Compliance,” regarding the “Open Meeting” law.

Guest, Richard Miller, Library Development Director from the Nebraska Library Commission was in attendance. Also present were Board members Carol Keller, Sharon Raimondo, Joie Taylor, and Craig Neid. Jim Schaefer was excused. Larry Brenner and Susan Schoenhofer of the Columbus Arts Council were present, as was Jill Owens, Library Director.

Notice of this meeting was given in advance with a copy of the agenda posted at City Hall, the Platte County Courthouse and in the Public Library. A notice also appeared in the Columbus Telegram. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the public.

The purpose of the meeting was for Richard Miller, Library Development Director from the Nebraska Library Commission, to meet with the Columbus Public Library Board of Trustees.

Richard noted that he had talked with Jill and looked over the Q of L concept information which had been sent to him. He recommended a book called “Strategic Planning for Results” as helpful in a planning process. He copied a page of Library Roles from the book and asked those present to think about what to emphasize, rather than trying to be all things to all people. He also used a list of questions he’d made to help us think of important things and to lead the discussion.

Carol Keller adjourned the meeting after 2 hours of discussion.
